Sneak Peek: Sub Tub

Here is a sneak peek at one of the projects I've been working on.

It's a sub tub!  I'm dividing things up by quarter and grade level.  I'll post more soon on how everything is getting organized, lesson plans and a cute label for the front of your tub!

  1. I started a sub tub this year also! i was already out sick once and the sub (who of course was not musical) said it was "unbelievably awesome". I also have everything subdivided by grade. Looking forward to seeing what you include in yours.

    1. I started one a few years ago but never finished putting everything together. I'm really excited about not having to worry when I have to be out at the last minute.

    2. Exactly. I had a big envelope and a folder and all this stuff on my desk but they never could seem to find everything. With the tub everything can go in there and they don't need to touch anything else. I was also tired of coming back and having broken instruments on my desk. Now I have a set of rhythm sticks in there. Really hard to break those!

    3. (Because even if i said "don't use instruments" they still would get those out!" Now i have a closet i can lock them in!)

    4. Oh yes, nothing like coming back to a broken instrument. I've been there! I can't even imagine what my room must have looked like that day I was out because I came in to a complete mess. It's so unfortunate that there is a huge difference between a great sub and someone who gets assigned to your room for a last minute absence.

  2. I can't wait for more of this! I just posted on a Linky party about what I put in some of my sub resources. What I leave for a sub is definitely something that I want to improve on. It's so hard to know how to plan! I'd love to know what BOTH of you put in your sub/tub.

P.S. The "Making Music" series from Silver Burdett gives you a book and CD called "Sub Plans for the Non-music teacher" and it comes with your purchase of the Elementary Music series. Our district just got the series and I can't wait to see what's included.

    1. I've been adding more each day to my sub tub. I'm really excited to get it all done. I think it will be easier all around. I will be able to pull things from it when I'm planning to be out and it will be a great resource for a day when I have an emergency. I think sub plans are one of the more stressful things to do as a music teacher, especially when you aren't sure who is going to be in your room.
